Race Report
June 13, 2004

Chetek, WI
 
The Mole Lake Casino Off-Road Championships in Antigo, Wisconsin was the host for Round 3 and 4 of the Lucas Oil CORR Sportsman series. After the first two rounds of racing in Lake Odessa, Eric Ruppel and his #837 Phil's Inc, Swant Graber Ford, BFGoodrich Tires AMSOIL Ford F-150  hoping their engine woes were behind them.
 
Round 3
After a rear of the pack starting position, Eric worked his way towards the leaders. As time ran, #837 came home with a fell fought 5th place. Loose Cannon Racing finished the day satisfied, but set their sites on an even better performance  for Sunday.
 
Round 4
As the day began all the teams were preparing for an unusually clear hot and humid race day. Eric and the entire Loose Cannon Race Team were ready to run with the perennial class leaders.
 
At the start Eric found himself in 5th place going into the backside of the track. As the laps continued, he battle with the best drivers in the class, including Wells, Beauchamp, Waldvogel, and Steele. With four laps to go, Eric was in 2nd place with his sights on the leader Keith Steele. He was gaining on the leader when the engine let go. Limping around on the last lap, the engine quit with just two turns from the finish. In the end the team was awarded 6th place.
 
"This weekend I really learned how to drive this two-wheel drive truck. The last few years I've been racing in the Formula 4x4 trucks, and I've had learn how to go through the corners differently. We still have to solve our engine problems, but I know we will be ready for Crandon."- Eric Ruppel.
